Hole By Hole Description

Hole 1: Par 4, attention must be placed on the tee shot as the hole borders on a ravine on the right which comes into play almost immediately and again protecting the green. This will set you up with a wedge shot onto the green which slopes back to front, a very early test of things to come. Don't under club!
Hole 2: Par 4, wood shot required over ravine keeping the ball right and landing short onto a lower plateau or longer onto a higher plateau. Anything left off the tee will incur the ravine which swings back splitting the fairway. 2nd shot needs precise clubbing which is straight uphill with a tricky 2 tiered green, guarded by 2 front bunkers. Keep ball on left of green as slopes from left to right. Good tee shot a must!
Hole 3: Par 3, the long drive from the 2nd green to the 3rd tee takes you under the toll road and brings you out to the first of the Par 3's, a daunting 197 metres from the yellow tee. The shot depends on wind and handicap factors. The green is protected by the ravine which is approximately 167 metres to carry. The only saving grace is the very large green with undulations which could prove tricky depending on the flag position of the day. Your club choice should be all you have and more.
Hole 4: Par 5, after the last 3 holes this par 5 seems almost easy, but again a straight tee shot carrying 200 meters over the ravine is a must. A straight 2nd shot again with a long iron will repay you with a wedge shot avoiding the green guarded by 2 front bunkers and 1 back bunker. A real chance to get something back from the golf course. Take care, birdie opportunity!
Hole 5: Par 4, 335 meters straight up hill is another chance for birdie. Your tee shot must avoid bunkers right and left in the fairway and will swallow up any slightly wayward drives. A straight drive will be rewarded with a short iron uphill but beware of a large tricky 2 tiered green protected at the front with 2 large bunkers. Go for it!
Hole 6: Par 4, now at the highest part of the course, this downhill par 4 really gives the player an opportunity to open their shoulders on the drive. A small piece of rough land cuts in from the left and will swallow up anything hit short off the tee whilst a bunker left side will take out a good drive. After a good drive a second shot using a longish iron is still required downhill to the green. Anything short will be penalized by front bunkers and too long with back bunkers. The green is again 2 tiered rising upwards from front to back. N.B. make sure you are below the hole. Birdie chance!
Hole 7: Par 5, the tee shot is vital for this hole and it is important to avoid 2 man-made lakes with the fairway protected left and right by bunkers. Picturesque mountain scenery is in front of you with the 2nd shot being a slight dogleg left. A decent 2nd shot leaves you with a mid-iron 3rd shot to a large, open, undulating green protected with 2 greenside front bunkers. Birdie chance for long hitters!
Hole 8: Par 3, good club selection is essential. A huge open green is protected totally by a man-made lake. Anything short and you're in the dropping zone. It is quite easy to 3 putt this one. Handle with care!
Hole 9: Par 4, threading through a picturesque mountain drop, a decent drive avoiding the fairway bunker left will set up a short to mid iron 2nd shot. However a blind man-made lake will catch anything slightly hit right. A narrow entrance to the green welcomes you with again an undulating, slick green. Looks easy from the tee but will catch many a good golfer. Attention needed!
Hole 10: Par 4, one of the easiest holes on the course with fairway bunkers left and right waiting to catch any wayward drive. The 2nd shot after a good drive is a short to mid-iron and another tricky undulating green protected by 2 front greenside bunkers await. Birdie chance!
Hole 11: Par 4, a long monster hole with ravine in play right and hillock left. Fairway bunker right needs attention for 2nd shot. Most players will be playing 3 shots to this green and a large undulating green protected by 2 front bunkers awaits. If you knock it on in 2 you deserve your eagle or birdie opportunity.
Hole 12: Par 5, this is the widest fairway so far but the ravine again cuts in and runs alongside on the left, with a slight dogleg right it gives you a chance to open your shoulders. A fairway bunker catches the long hitters maybe trying to cut the dogleg. A good drive for long hitters sets up a chance of knocking it on in 2. If you are protecting your score, a mid to long iron lay up will leave under a 100m 3rd shot, but for the big hitters watch the fairway bunker left waiting to catch your 2nd shot. 2 Front greenside bunkers again protects a large green. Go for this one !!
Hole 13: Par 5, back to back par 5's this is slightly shorter than the last. Again the ravine runs right with attention needed for the tee shot. The fairway is protected by 2 large fairway bunkers on the right. Drive straight or slightly left and you will avoid all the trouble. Better players will be hitting long irons and it is very easy to be on in 2, setting up another chance for birdie or better. The green again is open.
Hole 14: Par 3, an inviting Par 3 with club selection again vital. Anything slightly front right to back of green will put you into a water holding area. Left and you could incur the cart path and the wrong bounce will put you into the small stream running down the WHOLE of the left side. Green quite flat and a easy par 3 if you hit straight.
Hole 15: Par 4, the first of 2 devilish holes with a narrow fairway and a precise tee-shot is needed, anything not, 2 bunkers in the right and left fairway and 20 meters between them come into play. Miss the fairway left and you're into the ravine. The hole then slightly dog-legs right and if you miss the fairway bunkers you are rewarded with an uphill mid iron shot. Don't under club! The green is protected by 2 large greenside bunkers left and right which opens up to a large devilish green with breaks and borrows running through it. Caution on green!
Hole 16: Par 5, this stroke index 1 470 meters from the yellow tees has to be given the utmost respect. A long wood shot has to be aimed out to a supporting wall right and carry over 200 metre. Anything left and you are out or playing another part of the course. After a successful drive and safely on the narrowish fairway a player can select the lay-up with a mid to long iron, or the better player can have a go at the green using a rescue club or wood. He who dares, wins! Third shot, players may find themselves with a mid iron or wedge. The large green again is surrounded completely with deepish bunkers, a true test of a hole. Deep Breath!
Hole 17: Par 3, after the last hole we come to a moderate par 3 only 175 metres this time !! The only saving grace on this hole is the huge green and that is all you see from the tee. Club selection and wind conditions is vital to the player on this hole as it is semi-surrounded by the ravine and on the right side of the hole it is protected by a severe rock face. The green is protected again by large bunkers which many golfers would be happy to be in after tee shot.
Hole 18: Par 4, this amazing closing hole brings in the fantastic views of The Rock of Gibraltar. The tee shot has to be precise with a carry of 135 metres over a gorge to reach the fairway, which at one point is just a mere 7 paces wide. A strategically placed fairway bunker at 185 metres will catch many a drive. Short is good, long will see the drive rollout to the left. Anything left and you will need rock climbing equipment. However a good tee-shot is rewarded with a mid to low iron shot to a generous 2 tiered green protected with 3 large greenside bunkers, a real finishing hole. A good tee shot is a must!
